the cross emptied of its power?

1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

I don't think that it is possible to negate Christ's work on the cross. The apostle means here that he does not want anything of his wisdom, knowledge, cleverness, power, gifts, or attractiveness to get in the way of his presentation of the gospel.

He wants people to see Christ's atonement not Paul's accomplishments.

What things in us can come in the way of people seeing the power of the cross??

This is a hard question!!

I have a list of negative things that might get in the way, but it is so hard to pick the positive things from my own perspective.

This is blowing my mind, right now.

One thing for me is my knowledge. I want people to know how much I know (about whatever) with the result that I may be diverting them from thinking how much the Lord offers them.
